There is provision for a sub-directory called \XTRA, into which you may put your own ASCII text files from any source.
There is now available a facility for writing, saving and printing two
sizes of LABELS and an EXTRACT for each of the chemical files.
This applies equally to Custom Files and files in the \XTRA directory,
as it does to package files.
New in Update to February 1997:
Some chemical files have been updated because of changes to regulations, mostly Poisons
Regulations. Some new chemicals have been added to the package, with corresponding entries
in the Alphabetical Cross Reference and in the Appendices. Minor changes to the main program
to make it just a little more user-friendly.
Data Collection:
The data in this package is derivative. That means
that it is drawn from existing published, or even unpublished, information.
This also means that AUSREG offers the data in good faith, but cannot claim
authorship or responsibility as to the accuracy of every item. Indeed,
on many chemicals, the sources used have disagreed.
The approach taken by AUSREG is as follows: Whenever
two or more sources have claimed different data values, or have disagreed
as to the classification of a chemical, AUSREG has recorded the "worst
case". It is felt that it is wiser to record the lowest Flash Point, the
lowest Boiling Point, the lowest LD50, and to record the chemical as
dangerous goods if at least one source so indicates.
This data package is not just a list of "nasties".
For persons handling chemicals,
it is just as important to know when a chemical is not dangerous. For this
reason, the chemicals included in this package were chosen originally for
their general availability, rather than for their antisocial properties.
We may still have missed some of your favourites. If we have, either add
them to your Custom Files, or ask AUSREG to include them in the next update.
Planned Updates:
A number of new chemicals have been
added to the master AUSREG copy, and will be released in updates. for example, a
molecular weight calculater has been added to the package, accessible from
most screens by pressing F5. This will be especially useful when writing
your own custom files. It will also run quite independantly of the main package
if required.
Discount and Support:
Registered
users will be offered updates (free by email) and additional disks at considerable discount.
There is no charge for support for AUSREG products and services.
